Emerson : 3 months & 4 months

Only a few months late...not a good sign!

Emerson has changed soo much in the last 2 months.  She has become such a happy and content baby!  I hope she continues to be this way!

3 Months

I started back to work this month.

The transition went a lot smoother than I expected but everyday that I work is still very hard.  My heart would much rather be at home with Emy than at work but  I know this won't last forever.  And as time goes on and I get more comfortable at work, it will get easier. Emerson has done really well with going to different babysitters each week, so I'm very thankful for that.  My mom watches her one day and my sister in law Traci does another day or 2 depending on the week.  Kirk gets her a lot in the evenings and on the weekends and his sister Jamie helps out then too if Kirk is on call.  So far the arrangements have worked good so I'm thankful for that too!

My close friend Brianna had a baby girl this month!  They will be the best of friends!
First time meeting Aleya Rose! They were thrilled to meet each other!

I attempted to take her 3 month pictures but she just wasn't her normal smiley self the days that I tried so I wasn't very happy with how they turned out!

Sleep: Every since going back to work, Emerson has done really well sleeping.  She usually only wakes up once in the early morning between 3-5 to eat.  On days that I work, she does just fine getting woke up and put into her car seat to go to mom's or traci's and will fall back asleep (if she's not hungry) easily.

She usually wakes up around 7 to eat again and is awake for a little bit and then takes another nap.  On my days off we usually stay in bed a while in the mornings, even if she is awake.

I like to have some snuggle time with her! Naps during the day are still about the same.  She is staying awake more and more tho!

Eating: Not much has changed this month.  She still eats about 4 oz every 2-4 hours.  She takes a bottle during the day and is breastfed at night.  I switched to munchkin latch bottles completely because she does the best with those.  She has become less and less fussy this month and is not near as gassy so we are excited about that!!

Development and personality: Emerson is mostly in her 3 month clothes now but they are still pretty big on her!  She still wears some newborn onesies and leggings.  She has gotten a lot stronger and sometimes sits in her bumbo...although she doesn't last for very long.
First time in the bumbo...she wasn't too sure!

watching daddy work!

She has become super slobbery and loves to chew on her hands.  The beginning of the month we still dealt with some fussy spells, especially in the evenings but by the end of month 3 she had become very easy going for the most part! We have a super happy baby and we hope she continues to be!
love. love. love her faces!

She will almost always give you a smile if you talk to her or smile at her unless she is really tired or hungry.

4 months

Since I wasn't happy with her 3 month photos, I decided to take 4 months ones instead.  They turned out much better!

I love this picture!

Sleep: Emerson still sleeps good at night, getting up usually only once to eat.  Although the past couple nights she's been getting up a few times, so i'm hoping that doesn't last!  She usually goes to sleep between 8-9 and sleeps till 3-5 when she eats and then back to sleep until around 7ish.

She is still sleeping in her pack n play in our room.  We introduced her to the sound machine this month but I haven't noticed a difference in her sleeping. Kirk thinks she's addicted to it already, but she will pretty much fall asleep anywhere if she's tired enough.  We do still swaddle her but it doesn't ever last very long! She likes to have her arms out so she can chew on them if her nuk isn't in.
Spending time at grandmas!
Throughout the day she is up a lot more often for longer periods of time.  she takes around 4 naps during the day, usually in her swing but sometimes in the pack n play, depending on how much noise I think I'm going to be making! She likes to have a blanket close to her face when she sleeps.
Chillin' in her bumbo!
Eating: Emerson still eats about every 2-4 hours but usually she'll drink 4 oz and still be hungry.  She still hasn't had much gas like she used too which I think is partly why she has been a much happier baby!
Sometimes it's got to be done!
I don't know if finally finding the right type of bottle made the difference or what, but something has! She doesn't usually spit up very much, except for when we are least expecting it!

Development & personality:  At her 4 month appointment she weighed 11 lbs 15oz and was 23 inches long.  She is in the 9th percentile for her weight and 4th percentile for her length.  She learned to giggle this month and has started to talk and coo a lot.

She also rolled over a few days before her 4 month birthday...I was at work so I didn't get to see it, but she was with daddy and he didn't see it either, he just new one minute she was on her tummy and the next time he looked she was on her back!

We have been trying to get her to do it again ever since but of course she won't do it when we want her too!!  She loves to sit up in her bumbo and look around. We usually put her in it at supper time so she can sit with us while we eat.

She likes to be where the action is if she is awake! She also loves to lay on her play mat and look at her toys.  She will grab a toy if I put it in her hands but she doesn't hold onto it for long.  She loves to be talked to and will smile and giggle and coo back at you.  She loves to talk to herself in the car when she can see herself in the mirror.  She still doesn't like her tummy for very long but she has definitely become stronger because she will hold her head up for longer periods of time.

It is so much fun watching her as she grows and develops and figures out new things!  She is such a miracle and we love her sooo much!

Emerson : 2 months

Two months already! Time is flying by and I'm trying to soak up as much of it as I can! It's amazing what 1 month can hold, she has changed so much already!

I have been enjoying my time at home with Emerson and didn't stretch myself too far this month.

The middle of January we traveled to Wisconsin Dells with Kirk's family for a short weekend.  Emerson did really well traveling and slept most of the way.  We stopped once on the way there for breakfast and to feed her, but on the way home she slept the whole way! We learned that packing with a child makes for a ton of bags, even just for 1 night! Emerson was too little to enjoy any of the water activities so she and I sat on the side lines and people watched! She pretty much ate and slept and enjoyed being held!

We attempted a night out at Olive Garden, but Emerson did not cooperate!  I was able to stay in the restaurant long enough to eat a few bites of my meal before taking and inconsolable baby out to the car!
So I enjoyed my meal at home!
We spent some afternoons at my sister's house helping her repaint her kitchen cabinets. The kids loved taking care of Emerson and I enjoyed the break!

Emerson got 3 shots at her two month doctor's appointment.

That evening this is what we dealt with!  She was not a happy camper!  Poor thing...one of her legs got really red, tender, and swollen and she would scream every time she moved it!  Even with Tylenol. I'm thankful it only lasted a few hours.

We spent an afternoon visiting Grandma Leman.  She enjoyed holding her but unfortunately Emerson was kind of fussy!

And of course a little cousin time...

Sleep: The beginning of the month we struggled a lot with getting Emerson to sleep.  If she would get overtired, bedtime became a challenge..  We did lots of experimenting until she would finally fall asleep from exhaustion.  But little by little she began to do better at falling asleep and now I can lay her in bed and give her her pacifier and she will fall asleep eventually (I might have to give her the pacifier a few times because she doesn't always keep it in her mouth)!  Every once in a while we will have a difficult night but for the most part she does much better! Sometimes she'll fall asleep in her swing, but I can move her to her bed without her waking up.  She is still sleeping in our room in the pack 'n' play.  I'm going to have a really hard time moving her to her crib when that time comes!  I like having her nice and close to me!  She has been sleeping almost all night for the past couple weeks.  She'll give me 5, 6, sometimes 7 hour stretches and once she slept 8 hours!  I usually only feed her once in the night and then around 6:30 or 7 she usually wakes up and I'll put her in bed with me for a couple hours. I enjoy her snuggles! We still swaddle her at night, which she seems to like.

Emerson takes about 3-4 naps during the day.  She usually naps in her swing, which she really likes.  Sometimes I'll snuggle with her on the couch while she sleeps or put her in the pack 'n' play.  If she's tired enough, she will sleep about anywhere.  She doesn't have to be rocked to sleep but sometimes wants to be held until she's just about asleep.

Eating: We started working on bottles at 5 weeks.  The first week I gave her one bottle a day and she did pretty well with it.  Now I give her bottles during the day and breast feed at night.  It's been going pretty well, which I'm very thankful for since I will be going back to work in 2 1/2 weeks. She doesn't always do the best at drinking from the bottle and will play around with it sometimes, but she gets what she needs, just not always super quickly. She eats about every 2-3 hours, sometimes more.  Usually she'll drink around 3-4 ounces from a bottle.  She has become a spitter-upper this month, and a very gassy baby!

Emerson's first bottle - Daddy got to feed her!
Development:  At her 2 month doctor's appointment Emerson weighed 9lbs 15oz and 20.5 inches long.  I had been weighing her at home but according to our scale, I thought she was over 11lbs, so I was a little surprised when they weighed her! She was in the 15th percentile for her weight and only the 1st percentile for her length...looks like she might take after her daddy's side of the family! She is still in newborn outfits but she has started wearing some 0-3 month sleepers. Emerson started smiling at 5 weeks and it's one of her favorite things to do!  She loves to listen to people talk to her and if you're lucky, she'll flash you a grin or three! She can focus on faces now when she is being talked to and she loves to look at her surroundings. She has become a much more content baby since she started taking her pacifier.

Emerson spends most of her time in her swing or on her play mat.  She doesn't usually last too long on the play mat, especially during tummy time.  I haven't done very well with giving her a lot of tummy time, but she seems to have strong neck muscles anyways! She doesn't always mind being on her tummy but usually will only last 5-10 minutes.

I thought it would be interesting to compare her preemie, newborn, and 0-3 month sleepers to see how much she has grown.  It's hard to believe she was that little!

Personality: If Emerson's not hungry or tired, she is a happy baby! However, when she's not happy, she can let us know quite dramatically at times!  She's got quite the adorable faces, especially her pouty, whinny face (I probably won't always think that but right now it's cute!). I'm looking forward to seeing her personality develop in the months ahead!
